The remarkable story of Mishka Tribal Impulse began more than 50 years ago when in 1971, Michael and three friends set up a series of craft workshops and began selling their own handcrafted wares locally under the name of Ishka. Many years had passed Michael became the sole proprietor of the business and focused his efforts at sourcing unique and individually crafted items from around the globe, selling mostly on a wholesale business. Today, Mishka opened a large retail display at 50 Whitehorse Rd Balwyn. They wholesale and host artists and craftspeople, tribal home wares, furniture, clothing and a truly amazing collection of bohemian jewellery.

Michael’s concept of tribalism embraces the fact that we are all members of tribes, whether the connections are cultural, social, family or even based upon sports teams.  The ethos of Mishka is to enjoy the common humanity and creativity in all cultures, by acquiring and using artefacts designed and created by those considered as bohemians living around us. Purchasing artisan goods such as the range of 95% silver rings produced by the Karen tribes from Northern Thailand not only directly benefits their communities but also adds value and enrichment to our own.
